How To Stay Motivated When You Just Can’t Be Bothered
Listen, it happens – you set goals for yourself, you have the best intentions, you know what you need to do, but you would rather pull the covers over your head, sleep a bit more and watch ‘Making a Murderer’ on a loop with your favourite Deliveroo meal and glass of merlot (by the way, you need to see that). Nobody’s perfect, and you can’t always expect to be at 100% all the time – there will be some lows, some bleh’s and some really amazing highs. It’s all part of the journey.
Plus, we all get seduced by our inner lazy girl – especially at this time of year when you want to stay bundled up in hibernation mode. Every now and then, an indulgent duvet day is a fabulous thing – but if like us, you just have waaaay to much to do and need help staying motivated when your spark is not at full throttle, try these tips:
1. Get an Accountabilibuddy
Yes, I believe we went over this in a past post! It WORKS. If you have someone that you are accountable to, you will get your booty in gear to make sure you get what you need done. Instant motivator 🙂 Plus, you’ll have someone to give you that all important pep-talk to help get you back on track.
2. Exercise
We’ve found that lack of motivation is very much connected to being low energy – so move around! Take a walk, take a fun dance class or log onto your Yoogaia workout app for a quick Yoga or Pilates class to boost your energy and get your heart rate going – you will end up with a buzz of energy that will get you feeling refreshed and slump-free.
3. Visualise
I have a board in my office that has pictures that symbolise the things I am working so hard to attain – a first class vacay to reward my hardworking hubby, more time and resource to fly back and forth to see our family back in the States, a new wardrobe courtesy of Net-a-Porter….I also have a notebook where I scribbled down the first iterations of the business, why I wanted to do it and what I wanted to achieve. I dream BIG, but I know it takes little baby steps everyday to get there – when I look at my vision board or read my mission plan, it spurs me on to get my booty in gear so that I can achieve what I set out to. Say this to yourself when you need some motivation – ‘Success comes with action’.
4. Treat Yourself
It’s the oldest trick in the book, but it works. Plan something fun, or indulgent for yourself when you have finished an important task or project. I do this all the time and it is one of the best ways to keep me motivated when I start flagging. It can be shopping and lunch with a friend the day after you finish putting together the pitch for that client, or something as simple as a fabulous duvet day on Friday afternoon with champagne, sushi and Netflix to reward yourself for getting the draft of the next chapter of your ebook done. Whatever makes you feel treated, plan it in after your deadline for some motivation.
What about you? What do you do to get motivated? x
