3 Lessons from London Fashion Week + 3 Trends for Autumn/Winter 2016

That’s a wrap!

London Fashion Week has come and gone and we at The Moderna had a crazy/wonderful time meeting with emerging designers, viewing some beautiful collections and cataloguing some of the trends coming your way.

We were so fortunate to be able to view some collections at LFW at Scoop International and at the Designer Showrooms on Brewer Street. The fashion industry is a whirlwind of magic and flash and we want to share a behind the scenes look at what’s behind the veil as well as some key looks at the showrooms that we think you’ll love.

LESSON #1: COMFORT IS KEY

Fashion Week is for more than just catwalks and star gazing. It just happens to be a star-studded industry event and take our word for it, spending 6 to 8 hours standing, walking and talking in your highest heels is not worth it. Trust us.

TREND #1: FUNCTIONAL AND CHIC COMBO

Echoing the minimalist aesthetic with a slight nomadic appeal, these soft looks are inspired by cosy and clean, comfortable and effortlessly wearable styling. Clean lines, simple cuts and a soft, slightly oversized silhouette lend easy structure and purity to this minimalist and highly feminine look. We saw great examples of this at the Neue London Collection.

LESSON #2: GENUINE PASSION IS EVERYTHING

There were some designers who just seemed a bit jaded by the whole experience and then there were those who really loved talking about their brand, their designs and their collections. It may sound weird, but that passion made their designs stand out as we felt them, we could absolutely see the exquisite detail come alive in Leanne Claxton’s silk scarf collection.

TREND #2: LUXURIOUS PATTERNS AND DETAILS

It’s time to step away from mass production and focus in on the details. The luxurious patterns and prints are intricate, ornate and reference the Far East. Layered textures and bold colour schemes complete the striking look. Every stroke of passion and fascination is detailed in every piece.

LESSON #3: STOP TRYING SO HARD & HAVE FUN

It’s all about having fun and enjoying the ride. Soho truly came alive with Fashion Week and from the Burberry and Mary Katrantzou catwalks to smaller shows from 1st timers, it’s clear the fashion word is opening up with designs for everyone, every body, and every style. There were incredible, super niche designs that were attractive and simple, like the whimsical astrological jewelry at Jessieve.com.

TREND #3: SIMPLE AND DELICATE MEETS GLAM ROCK

This trend is fun and funky. There is a combination of rock chic mixed with your mother’s tea party. These designs are characterised by an 80s stardust vibe juxtaposed with soft and delicate finishes. Think a David Bowie aesthetic with lace and tulle.
